Why Seeing Clearly Goes Beyond 20/20 Vision

Many people believe that having 20/20 vision means their eyes are perfectly healthy, but there’s more to clear vision than just seeing letters on a chart. Functional vision involves how well your eyes work together, focus, and move, all of which are essential for reading, learning, and performing daily tasks. If there are weaknesses in these areas, it can lead to difficulties in school, work, and even during sports and hobbies.

Vision therapy addresses the root causes of these visual challenges by improving the brain’s ability to control the eyes. Our goal is to help patients develop stronger, more efficient visual skills, leading to improved performance in all areas of life.

How Do I Know If My Child Needs Vision Therapy?

If your child struggles with reading, focusing, or experiences headaches after doing homework, they may benefit from vision therapy. Common signs include difficulty concentrating, losing their place while reading, or avoiding visual tasks.

A comprehensive eye exam at Vision Advancement Center can determine whether vision therapy is the right course of treatment to help them succeed.

What Is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a series of doctor-prescribed exercises designed to improve how the eyes and brain work together. Using specialized tools, activities, and exercises, our program aims to strengthen visual skills like focusing, eye teaming, and tracking. Each plan is tailored to the patient’s specific needs, offering a non-invasive solution to common visual challenges.

Which Visual Problems Does Vision Therapy Help?

Our vision therapy programs are designed to address a range of visual challenges, including:

  • Eye tracking problems
  • Focusing difficulties
  • Binocular vision dysfunction
  • Eye coordination issues
  • Convergence insufficiency

These issues can interfere with learning, reading, and daily activities, but vision therapy offers a solution to improve overall visual performance.

What to Expect from Your Child's Vision Therapy

At our clinic, your child’s vision therapy journey begins with a thorough evaluation, including specialized tests to assess visual skills like focusing, tracking, and eye teaming. Based on the results, we create a personalized therapy plan that targets their specific visual challenges.

Therapy sessions typically occur once a week and last about 45 minutes. During each session, your child will participate in various exercises and activities designed to improve their visual abilities. These can include eye-tracking exercises, focusing tasks, and activities that promote better eye coordination. We use fun, engaging tools, such as lenses, prisms, and interactive games, to keep your child motivated and involved in their progress.

In addition to in-office therapy, your child will be given activities to practice at home. Consistency is key, and these home exercises help reinforce the skills they are developing during their sessions. Over time, you should notice improvements in their ability to read, concentrate, and perform other visually demanding tasks with ease.

Our supportive, caring team is committed to helping your child succeed through every step of their vision therapy journey.
